Development Before Results!

Congratulations to all Forza players making the South Texas Olympic Development Program (ODP)! Many more would have made the team but the players did not attend the tryout due to conflicts in their schedule.

The function of ODP is the identification, selection, and opportunity for development of the state's top players, and through high level training and competition, to provide the means by which these players are prepared to compete for selection for regional, national, collegiate and professional opportunities.

For those of you who don't know, Paul Gardner is a transplanted Brit who has written commentary for Soccer America for years. Always controversial, he pulls no punches in his missives and calls it like he sees it. After watching the U-17 World Cup this past month (which, I’m willing to bet, the majority of those involved in youth soccer-which unfortunately includes most of our players--in the AAYSA area didn’t watch) I understand the point he is making in the following article. I’m also willing to bet that more than a few feathers will be ruffled by his comments.
